In Avlis, a few meters away from
the Shipyard area, one can visit the archaeological site
of Iphigenia sacrifice altar.
Sailing a few miles away from Avlis, Chalkis (which was named
after chalkos - bronze) is attractively situated on the Euripos at its narrowest.
Chalkis is the capital (about 50,000 inhabitants) of the district of Euboea
and one of the major harbors of central Greece.
As a modern industrialized city Chalkis combines a
full range of telecommunication, hotel accommodation
and a scenic coastal area, which provide the
ideal port for management and crew.
The city is well situated for tourists, having nice
beaches and excellent quality of fish
restaurants. Some of Chalkis places of interest
are mentioned here below:
- The Castle of Karababa. On the Viotia
coast of the town, it occupies the top of the hill
«Kanithos». The church of the Prophet Elijah has been
preserved in the interior of the castle and from this
hill the visitor has the opportunity to admire the
wonderful view of the town.

occupation it was turned into a store house and carriage
house. After the liberation of Chalkida, the church

the town.

there are stone steps and many industrial buildings.
