A successful readiness exercise for fire and pollution control was held at Chalkis Shipyards
Within the framework of the obligations of Chalkis Port Authority regarding the prevention and management of sea pollution, a readiness exercise was held on Thursday, 24 October 2019 at Chalkis Shipyard in cooperation with local authorities.
According to the scenario, a tugboat crashed into the dock spilling 20m3 of (shipping) oil, causing pollution which should be dealt with and mitigated immediately.
The scenarios were designed so as to update guidelines for the Port Authority’s response in case of an incident that causes pollution improving response times and coordination between the different authorities and other services that are directly involved (Port Authority, shipyard’s members of personnel, etc.) in dealing with this complex pollution incident.
